Practical preparation notes for travellers departing from Bangladesh. They apply to most destinations, but always follow the specific advice we give you for your itinerary, and check the requirements for your destination before you fly.
Passport
- Most countries require at least six months' validity on your passport beyond your date of entry.
- Keep at least two blank pages free for visa and immigration stamps.
- Check that the name on your ticket matches your passport exactly. Corrections after ticketing attract airline charges.
- Carry a photocopy or phone photo of the data page, kept separately from the passport itself.
Visa and entry rules
Confirm whether your destination requires a visa in advance, offers visa-on-arrival, or needs an electronic travel authorisation. Requirements change frequently. See our Visa Guide, or the destination pages under visa services, and start early.
Money and currency endorsement
- Bangladeshi travellers must have foreign currency endorsed on the passport by a bank or authorised dealer before departure.
- Carry a mix of cash and cards; tell your bank you are travelling so cards are not blocked.
- Declare cash above the legal limit at customs on both departure and arrival.
Health
- Check whether any vaccination certificate is required for entry, and carry it with your travel documents.
- Bring prescription medicines in their original packaging with a copy of the prescription.
- Travel insurance covering medical treatment and repatriation is strongly recommended.
Baggage
- Baggage allowance varies by airline, route and fare class. Check your ticket rather than assuming.
- Keep passport, tickets, medicines, valuables and one change of clothes in your cabin bag.
- Power banks must travel in cabin baggage, never in checked luggage.
At the airport
- Arrive at least three hours before an international departure.
- Carry your return ticket, hotel confirmation and, where required, proof of funds. Immigration officers may ask for them.
- Answer immigration questions directly and keep your supporting documents accessible.
While you are away
- Buy a local SIM or eSIM, or confirm roaming charges before you travel.
- Save our contact number and your hotel address offline.
- Respect local laws and customs, including dress codes at religious sites.
- Note the location of the nearest Bangladesh mission at your destination.
